Healthy Food Comes From Healthy Soil

Healthy Food comes from healthy soil and unless the agriculture is organic, you will be hard pressed to find truly healthy food, as healthy as it was sixty years ago.

Business agriculture is busy finding better ways to produce bigger crops. Their science is devoted to developing hybrid varieties that are more uniform and produce bigger yields.

How and when to fertilize to bring about a better result is one their foremost concerns. They are concerned about how their products are going to appear in the produce department of your local supermarket.

The profit margin is a big concern in commercial agriculture so they keep on taking from the soil and never give anything back.

Letting the soil rest once in every seven years is never given a thought because they would lose a whole years produce and that would leave a hole in in their pocket.

It leaves us with produce that’s lacking in vitamin and mineral content. Healthy food is not a concern of theirs.

There are several alternatives, grow your own vegetables. Find a local farmer who practices organic farming. Find a small farm that sells their own produce from their own roadside stand, at least you will be buying produce that is fully developed and ripened in the field. What you buy will have a lot more vitamins and minerals than what you get from your local supermarket.

Which is Better, Field Ripened Or What you Find at The Supermarket

If you grow a tomato plant at your house try a little experiment. When you have a nice big green tomato on your plant, cut it off leaving as much of the stem as you can [if you don’t it will rot] and then leave it to ripen.

When you have a nice red ripe tomato on your vine, pick it and compare the flavor of the two of them, The one that was picked green and the one picked ripe, see how much better the vine ripened one tastes.

The vine ripened fruit not only tastes better but is better for you because it’s mature and so contains more nutrients and natural sugars.

Go to an apple orchard some day in late fall, pick an apple off a tree, take it home, buy the same type apple at your local supermarket. Eat the one you picked fresh first, you may never want to buy another apple from the supermarket.

Healthy food has a flavor all it’s own. It tastes so good, if there were more of it maybe we wouldn’t eat as much junk food as we do.

In commercial agriculture produce has to be harvested before it matures. The reason? It’s practically impossible to transport fruits and vegetables that have matured in the field because they will not keep fresh for very long. And they don’t travel very well.

Bananas are a good example. When you see them in the supermarket they are sometimes still a little green. When they are picked for shipping in south and Central America they are dark green and hard as rocks. That way they won’t bruise easily and they arrive at their destination looking really good.

The same with tomatoes they are hard as rocks when they are picked, They are chemically treated to give them a red coloring even before they are picked. If they were not picked prematurely they wouldn’t survive being picked by the machines and being transported to their destinations.

All of this food being harvested prematurely means that the natural sugars that we need for our own healthy cell production is not there. There are fewer natural vitamins, minerals, proteins and acids for our bodies to use to promote good wellness and health.

Combine that with the fact the soil it is grown in is depleted, is it any wonder that there is a health crisis in this country. So, now ask yourself this question. IS THERE A NEED TO SUPPLEMENT WITH VITAMINS AND MINERALS?

Here are the alternatives, Grow it yourself, Buy organic from an organic farm or at least buy it picked ripe at a local farmers roadside stand. Remember healthy food is a rare find at your local supermarket
