MSG is Hidden

Msg is Hidden, why? Because it is big business that’s why. This years world wide production of Mono Sodium Glutamate is about two million five hundred thousand metric ton. [2,500,000 mt] That translates to about three quarters of a pound for every living person on the planet, men women and children.

The Production of MSG is growing at an annual rate of four percent per year. That is alarming when you consider researchers use tiny fractions of an ounce To destroy cells, cause strokes, cause epileptic seizures and cause gross obesity in laboratory animals.

I have a recognized brand of chicken broth in front of me right now, sounds innocent enough, the ingredients label says mono sodium glutamate in two places. The label also says there is less than two percent of each of each of these ingredients. I read it to mean two percent. That means there could be four percent mono-sodium glutamate in this can of broth.

MSG is hidden. The label goes on to mention Hydrolyzed [Which always means processed MSG] corn, soy, and wheat gluten. that’s another six percent, now we are up to ten percent.

But it doesn’t stop there. Modified corn starch is another ingredient that could contain MSG [or glutamate]. Autolized yeast is a glutimate now we are up to twelve percent.

Natural flavorings could contain glutamic acid and it is also in this one 14.5 oz can of chicken broth. In this one can of chicken broth 1.7 oz is mono sodium glutimate. A 14.5 oz can of regular chicken soup from the same manufacturer may contain a little more glutamic acid.

Why is mono sodium glutamate added to processed foods? It is claimed that it is a flavor enhancer and it is. Suppose a processor was using one thousand pounds of beef to make one hundred thousand 14.5 oz cans of vegetable beef soup. Which is only a small portion of what he makes each day.

He now adds two pounds of processed glutamic acid a flavor enhancer, at a cost of one dollar per pound. And only uses four hundred pounds of beef instead of the original one thousand pounds.

The savings are enormous, adding up to millions of dollars each year. When you can save in the millions, that is very big business. That probably answers the question, why MSG is hidden on the label.

Every where you go mono-sodium glutamate is being added to your food. Nursing homes, hospitals, school cafeterias and restaurants all use it to enhance the flavor of their food. Does the word Accent ring a bell, it is something that was commonly used at one time.

Accent is used as a flavor enhancer in home kitchens. I can remember when it was used as commonly as table salt and was always on the dinner table beside the salt and pepper.

Accent is a monosodium glutamate salt. Today research scientists have found it to be directly linked to autism, ADHD, obesity and diabetes and more.

MSG is hidden in the labeling of processed foods. Because more and more people are becoming aware of the unhealthy consequences of using mono-sodium glutamate and shoppers are reading labels. Big business is trying to hide it in the labeling and so is the FDA.
